LAOAG CITY – Swimmers Sophia Garra and Titus Sia swept their respective events to further lift the National Capital Region to an insurmountable lead in the overall standings of the 2025 Palarong Pambansa here Friday, May 30.

The pride of Malabon City also conquered the 100m and 200m freestyle, and 4x50 freestyle and medley relays with two record-breaking performances in 100m backstroke and 200m IM – an impressive feat for an aspiring Olympian.
“Pinaghandaan ko po talaga ‘to kasi goal po ‘to na ma-sweep ko po ‘yong mga events,” said Garra. “Ngayon po kasi mas maayos po ‘yong mindset ko and mas mahirap ‘yong mga naging training namin.”
“Pangarap ko pong mag-Olympics balang araw gaya ni coach Jenny,” added Garra, who guided by 2000 Sydney Games swimmer Jenny Rose Guerrero.
On the other hand, the 12-year-old Sia achieved the similar feat by winning the 100m freestyle, 50m backstroke, 4x50m freestyle and medley relays while shattering previous records in 200m and 400m free and 100m back.
“My ultimate dream is to become an Olympian… and my loved ones inspired me to be back here, and gained recognition from the elite swimmers here,” said Sia. “That’s the only mindset I have from last year, ‘yong training ko is still the same.”
On the last day of action, NCR holds a gigantic lead with 101 gold, 65 silver, and 44 bronze medals, way ahead of CALABARZON (39-60-55), Davao Region (36-22-33), Western Visayas (35-44-44), and Northern Mindanao (27-21-38) as of 3 p.m.
Earlier, the Davao Eagles flew to the top of the secondary boys 5-on-5 basketball after beating Western Visayas, 67-51, at the jam-packed Ilocos Norte Centennial Arena.
The Davaoneño cagers, who were represented by Ateneo de Davao, banked on their late surge after hiking their lead to 16, 55-39, and enough to take the fight out of St. Roberts International College of Region VI.
