The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) conducted a jail facility tour and forum to enhance the “digital transformation correctional services’’ of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP).
Led by Dr. Nick Tobia, the UNODC group conducted the BJMP’s Digital Record System activity at the Quezon City Jail Female Dormitory (QCJFD) in coordination with the BJMP-National Headquarter (NHQ) and National Capital Region Office (NCRO).
The BJMP explained that the aims to assess and promote the implementation of the BJMP Digital Record System, a program designed to enhance the efficiency, transparency, and accessibility of persons deprived of liberty (PDL) records.
“It served as a platform for knowledge-sharing and gathering insights from both international and local experts on digital justice systems,’’ the BJMP noted.
QCJFD warden Chief Inspector Lourvina Abrazado toured the UNODC representatives and other BJMP personnel in the facility, introducing various rehabilitation programs and services provided to the PDL.
The services offered to the QCJFD PDLs include livelihood training, educational programs, legal assistance, and health care services.
Abrazado said that the tour also showcased the QCJFD’s best practices in line with the “No Woman Left Behind” advocacy.
The QCJFD chief asserted that the activity marks another step forward in modernizing jail management and aligning it with international standards, reinforcing the facility’s commitment to delivering humane and progressive correctional services.
