3 dead, 7 hurt as truck plows into pedestrians, vehicles in QC

A trailer truck carrying construction materials plowed into pedestrians and vehicles killing three persons and injuring 7 others along Batasan-San Mateo Road in Quezon City on Wednesday night, May 29.

According to the police report, the truck driver was driving fast while traversing the road going to Marikina when it overturned on the Batasan-San Mateo road.

As it overturned, the truck continued to slide fast, hitting other vehicles near it including an AUV and three motorcycles.

The 38-year-old truck driver said he allegedly lost control of his vehicle after its brakes failed to function on the downhill section of the road.

Authorities said a man who was at a waiting shed was hit by the truck and died on the spot.

A motorcycle rider also died in the incident, while another individual was brought to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

The suspect is now under police custody and will be charged with reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide, multiple physical injuries, and damage to property.
