Though the bowling community remains active and rich of talents, it isn't as popular as before.
Mervyn Foo, a Singaporean bowling coach and a former member of his country’s national youth squad, has seen great potential in the country, but admitted it needs to be strengthened as many of the aspirants are striving for greatness.
“Youth bowling in the Philippines is gaining interest, but it’s still something we hope to strengthen further. Many young athletes are passionate, talented, and most especially, eager to learn—the potential is clearly present,” said Foo.
“With more opportunities and structured programs, we believe bowling can be just as visible and celebrated as other youth sports in the country,” he added. “The goal is to make the lanes more accessible and inspiring for the next generation.”
However, support is not enough if it is not envisioned for long-term success, which, according to Foo, is crucial as bowling is not just about discovering the next stars but should also hone future leaders.
He emphasized the significance of continuity – because it just keeps the momentum going on the right track– and proper support system.
“Developing young bowlers goes beyond skill—it’s about creating a system that guides them through each stage of their journey both on the lanes and outside the bowling center,” Foo continued.
“When youth programs are sustained and supported, they help build not only athletes, but future leaders and role models with holistic growth,” he added.
And it still goes down to sustainability and resources.
“Palaging may PUSO at LABAN. Filipino athletes have repeatedly shown they can compete on the world stage when given the right support,” he added. “With continued investment and guidance, we truly believe we can close that gap and rise to the top.”
"In modern bowling, having the right equipment plays a huge role in performance. Ball technology and lane conditions have scientifically evolved so much that strategy and gear go hand in hand," said Foo.
"It’s not just about power—it’s about making smart choices with what you have, being strategic with every move. Supporting bowlers with the right tools can elevate their game and boost their confidence, especially at the youth level," he concluded.
