Minor phreatic eruption occurs at Taal Volcano; Alert Level 1 remains in effect
A minor steam-driven eruption at Taal Volcano’s Main Crater at 9:18 p.m. on May 29, 2025 sent a 1,500-meter white plume into the air, as seen from Buco Station. Phivolcs says Alert Level 1 remains in effect. (Screengrab from Phivolcs Facebook)
The eruption generated a 1,500-meter white plume, as recorded by the thermal camera at the Buco Observation Station and IP camera at the Lower Calauit Observation Station.
Under Alert Level 1, sudden steam-driven or phreatic eruptions may still occur and potentially affect areas within Taal Volcano Island and the surrounding caldera.
Local government units are advised to closely monitor the situation and implement measures to protect the public, particularly against exposure to sulfur dioxide.
Entry into the volcano’s permanent danger zone, especially the Main Crater and the Daang Kastila fissure, remains strictly prohibited.
