Kapamilya R&B balladeer Jason Dy has officially renewed his contract with ABS-CBN’s premier record label, Star Music, as he celebrates his 10th anniversary in the music industry with an upcoming solo concert and a new album in the works.
During the contract signing ceremony at ABS-CBN Dolphy Theater in Quezon City, Jason thanked Star Music for the renewal of trust.
“Maraming salamat, Star Music, for this renewal of trust. I’m so excited to create more music with you guys. I’m very excited for everything that we’re releasing this year and for years to come," Jason said.
The Voice of the Philippines season 2 grand winner said he is set to headline his 10th anniversary concert, dubbed “SoliDYfied: A Decade of Jason Dy,” and release the album on the day of his concert on June 27.
“SoliDYfied,” a stylish night celebrating his music, will be staged at the Newport Performing Arts Theater and will be directed by actor John Prats.
"Solidified ang title ng concert because I am fortunate that I still get to do what I want to do. Ten years after, nagagawa ko pa rin ito and hindi lahat nabibigyan ng ganitong opportunity na eto pa rin ang ginagawa nila. (That's why the title of the concert is 'Solidified' because I am fortunate to do what I want to do 10 years later. I still have the opportunity to do it. Not everyone is afforded this chance.)"
"Sa Pilipinas marami ang magagaling na singer. And then every year, may bagong champion sa competition. Mabilis ang turnover. This marks my 10 years in the industry and celebrates the fact that I'm still here. (In the Philippines, there are many great singers. And then, every year, a new champion emerges in the competition. The turnover is fast. This is to mark my 10 years in the industry and celebrate that I'm still here)," Jason said.
Jason, 34, also said that he is excited for this concert because it will be co-produced by two of his good friends in the industry: KZ Tandingan and Yeng Constantino.
"My concert will be co-produced by my friends sila KZ Tandingan and Yeng Constantino. It's so hard to find friendships in the industry, and I'm grateful may mga totoong kaibigan ako. Sobrang na touch ako when they said they want to co-produce your concert. I love those girls so much. (My concert will be co-produced by my friends KZ Tandingan and Yeng Constantino. It's so hard to find friendships in the industry, and I'm grateful I have real friends. I was so touched when they said they wanted to co-produce your concert. I love those girls so much)," he said.
Jason’s anniversary album, meanwhile, will take listeners down memory lane as it will be composed of meaningful songs from his ten-year musical journey, according to ABS-CBN Music creatives, content, and operations head Jonathan Manalo.
“Naka-plan agad ang new anniversary album ni Jason na magiging celebration ng 10 years niya. All the songs that you’ve loved hearing Jason sing in the last 10 years you will hear in this upcoming album,” Jonathan shared during the contract signing event.
Aside from Jonathan, Star Music label head Andie Arellano and Cornerstone Entertainment vice president Jeffrey Vadillo also joined Jason in celebrating his latest milestone.
Jason also revealed the artists who left him feeling starstruck when he saw them perform."There's Regine Velasquez. During her first performance sa ASAP, nagperform kami sa isang production number (we performed in a production number). I was starstruck because it was my first time meeting her, and naka-duet ko pa sya (we had a duet)."And then Kyla. I love the R&B genre, so when I met Kyle and JR, our R&B queen and king, na-starstruck din ako."Another one is Sir Martin Nievera kasi I did a version of his signature song 'Be My Lady.' Grabe yung pressure sa akin for me to put out his song. (Another one is Sir Martin Nievera because I did a version of his signature song 'Be My Lady.' There is a lot of pressure on me to put out his song)," Jason said.
Advice for newcomers
Jason believes that passion, respect, and professionalism are crucial for longevity in the industry."Love what you do. Kapag hindi mo ito passion, you will not work for it. This is what I really love, and I work hard for it. Importante rin ang how you treat the people in the industry. (If it's not your passion, you won't work for it. This is what I really love, and I work hard for it. How you treat the people in the industry is also important.)," Jason said when asked about his advice to newbies who want to pursue a career in show business.
He added: "Kahit na sino pa man sila - engineers and the staff, kung masama ang ugali ninyo, people will not work with you. (No matter who they are - engineers and the staff, if you have a bad attitude, people will not work with you.) Show respect. Treat the people around you with respect."
Jason also urged other young artists to always come to the set well-prepared.
"You should always come prepared for anything that you do. Like sa ASAP, kapag binigay na sa akin yung materials, inaaral ko na agad yan so that I come prepared sa show. (You should always come prepared for anything that you do. Like in 'ASAP,' when I'm given the materials, I study them immediately so that I come prepared for the show.)
"It's a sign of respect din sa other people ang professionalism. That's one thing I learned. Looking at their actions, ganun sila kaya they last for a long time. (Professionalism is a sign of respect for other people. That's one thing I learned. Looking at their actions, that's how they last for a long time)," he added.
Dubbed the Prince of Soul, Jasoh has been part of the "ASAP" famly and has interpretedsongs for Himig Handog and Philpop songwriting festivals. Among his recent music releases are “Ulit-Ulit” and ”Magsabi Ka Lang.”
Over the years, fashion has also played a significant role in Jason's growth in the industry."I've worked with designers. I love clothes, and that's how I want to express my creativity. My style icons are Pharrell, Lenny Kravitz, Harry Styles, and Bruno Mars — nandyan din sila Freddie Mercury and Elton John.
“I already reached out to designers that I wanna work with, and binato ko na sa kanila yung ideas ko, the clothes have to match the songs I’m performing. Expect something shiny, sparkly, kakaiba!,” teased Jason.
