- Senator Imee Marcos, in a Facebook post hinting at her presence in the Netherlands, expressed support for former President Duterte and vowed action, not drama, in facing the challenges surrounding his ICC case.
"Narito tayo hindi upang magdrama, kundi para sa solusyon, narito tayo upang umaksyon (We are not here to be dramatic, but to find solutions—we are here to take action)," Marcos said in a Facebook post on Thursday, May 29, accompanied with a photo shaking hands with international human rights lawyer Atty. Nicholas Kaufman.
While no official confirmation has been made, the presidential sister hints at her arrival at The Hague.
The senator had earlier posted on Facebook, “The cold is bearable as long as you’re with a friend. Touchdown,” together with the Netherlands flag signaling her arrival there.
In her latest Facebook post, Marcos said she sympathizes deeply with Vice President Sara Duterte, who is already at The Hague to visit her father.
“Higit kanino man, alam ko ang pakiramdam ng mawalay sa sariling bayan (More than anyone, I know how it feels to be separated from one’s own homeland),” she wrote.
“Hindi ako naghintay ng 39 years para lang magkamali muli, may Marcos na natuto sa kasaysayan (I didn’t wait 39 years just to make the same mistake again, there is a Marcos who has learned from history),” Marcos added.
She underscored that her actions are driven not by loyalty to a single individual but by duty to the Filipino people.
Marcos also thanked Kaufman, saying, “Together, we will bring PRRD home,” in reference to efforts surrounding Duterte’s case.
Kaufman serves as the lead counsel for former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte at the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague. Duterte faces charges of crimes against humanity related to his administration's anti-drug campaign.
Prior to her post, Marcos was seen alongside the Vice President in Doha, Qatar, earlier when she met with the Filipino community there.
The Vice President had earlier promised her father, who is currently detained at the Scheveningen Prison in The Hague, that she would visit him with her mother, Elizabeth Zimmerman, on her birthday. The Office of the Vice President (OVP) shared photos of Duterte’s arrival in the airport together with her.
