According to the Office of the Vice President, the two officials met with the Filipinos at the Villaggio Mall Food Court in Doha, Qatar, though there was no publicized interview with Duterte in respect of Qatar’s strict rules against public gatherings.
Also with Duterte and Marcos was the Vice President’s mother, Elizabeth Zimmerman.
On Facebook, Marcos shared about the meeting with the Filipino community, and posted photos showing her with Duterte and Zimmerman.
“Ako po ay naimbitahan, kasama ng ating Bise Presidente Inday Sara Duterte dito sa Qatar para sa isang mahalagang pagsasama-sama ng ating mga kababayan; napakasaya ko rin makasamang muli ang Nanay ni Inday, Mam Elizabeth Zimmerman (I was invited with Vice President Inday Sara Duterte here in Qatar for an important gathering with our countrymen; I am happy to also be with Inday’s mother, Mam Elizabeth ZImmerman),” she wrote.
Photos from the OVP showed Duterte engaging with the Filipinos, who trooped to and filled the Villaggio Mall Food Court to spend time with the Vice President.
It can be recalled that it was in Qatar where 17 Filipinos were detained in a Doha resort on March 27 for illegally holding a public protest against the arrest of former president Rodrigo Duterte.
They were released more than a week later and charges of illegal assemble against them were dropped.
It was not clear if the 17 Filipinos, or some of them, were part of the delegation who welcomed Duterte in the Doha mall on Tuesday.
The Vice President is scheduled to fly to The Hague, Netherlands to visit and spend time with her father on May 30 and June 2 to 3.
On her birthday, May 31, she will participate in a peaceful gathering organized by various Filipino community groups in front of the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague.
Earlier, Duterte promised that she would spend her 47th birthday with her parents in The Hague.
