The Philippine National Police (PNP) is ready to provide “accommodation” to former Negros Oriental 3rdDistrict Rep. Arnie Teves should he is deported to the Philippines after his arrest in Timor Leste on Wednesday, May 28.
But PNP chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil said they have not received any word from the Department of Justice (DOJ) in connection with any assistance in relation to Teves who is wanted for the killing of Negros Oriental Roel Degamo in March 2023.
“There’s no request for any assistance from the NBI (National Bureau of Investigation), from the DOJ. But in case, we will provide the facility,” said Marbil.
The official is referring to the Custodial Center at Camp Crame in Quezon City where high-profile personalities are usually detained, the recent was former senator Leila de Lima who was already acquitted of the drug charges leveled against her during the Duterte administration.
Marbil, however, said they will leave the DOJ to map out plans in relation to Teves' arrival in the country.
What the PNP could assure, he said, is the detention facility and even the security for Teves if the DOJ would request for it.
“We still have no knowledge of the plan of the DOJ. But we are prepared to give assistance,” said Marbil.
Teves was arrested by police and Immigration authorities in Timor Leste where the former solon sought refuge after an arrest warrant was issued against him after he was tagged as the brains behind the Degamo killing.
