The Malabon City government welcomed delegates from the Department of Tourism (DOT) on Wednesday, May 28, with a vibrant culinary and cultural showcase that highlighted the city’s rich gastronomic heritage and cultural traditions.
Spearheaded by the City Tourism and Cultural Affairs Office (CTCAO), the event featured a food crawl that emphasized Malabon’s iconic dishes and supported the city's growing tourism initiatives.
According to the Public Information Office (PIO), the activity was part of the DOT’s “Salo-Salo: Taste the Flavor, Experience the Culture” program, which aims to celebrate the country’s diverse culinary heritage.
It also underscored the value of market tourism as a dynamic tool for cultural preservation and promotion.
“Pinagmamalaki po natin ang mga pagkaing sariling atin na sumasalamin sa pamana at tradisyon ng Malabon. Ang mga ito ang nagbibigay sa atin ng pagkakakilanlan bilang mga Malabueno—kaya’t ating tangkilikin, gaya ng Pancit Malabon (We take pride in our local delicacies that reflect the heritage and traditions of Malabon. These are what give us our identity as Malabueños—so let us continue to support and enjoy them, like our very own Pancit Malabon),” Mayor Jeannie Sandoval said.
The city government said that the delegates visited five renowned local food stops, namely Hazel's Puto, Jay’R's Okoy, Original Dolor's Kakanin, Nanay’s Pancit Malabon, and Ellet's Sweet (Halo-Halo).
It added that each stop featured live cooking demonstrations, followed by tastings of local favorites such as Pancit Malabon, okoy, puto, puto pao, halo-halo, and various rice cakes.
As part of the experience, the group also toured Concepcion Market to sample and explore various local food products.

The local government also presented its efforts in disaster preparedness and public safety.
The Malabon Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) displayed rescue tools and equipment outside City Hall.
Adding to the cultural celebration were live performances by Tanghalang Bagong Sibol and the Hiyas ng Sining Folkloric Dance Troupe, who performed traditional Filipino dances.
Delegates also visited the Guinness World Record Exhibition and Tourist Center at Malabon City Hall. On March 21, the city set a Guinness World Record for the longest line of noodle bowls by serving 6,549 bowls of Pancit Malabon.

The event was attended by DOT Secretary Christina Garcia-Frasco, Undersecretaries Berna Buensuceso, Christine Joy Cari, Maria Rica Bueno, Myra Abubakar, and Assistant Secretaries Ronald Conopio, Czarina Zara Loyola, Judilyn Quiatchon, and Sharlene Zabala-Batin.
DOT directors, officials from national and local agencies, and other guests also graced the event.
"Today, we not only showcased the delicious and well-loved dishes of Malabon, but we also highlighted our vibrant culture—an essential part of our identity as Malabueños and, more importantly, as Filipinos. You can be assured that the city government will continue to strengthen and promote Malabon’s culture and tourism even further,” Sandoval said.
