ZAMBOANGA CITY – The Zamboanga City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council held an emergency meeting to discuss proactive and response efforts on the presence of monkeypox in some Mindanao provinces.
OFFICIALS discuss the threat of monkeypox in Zamboanga City.
Mayor John Dalipe presided over the meeting which focused on the Zamboanga City Preparedness and Response Plan, monkeypox surveillance and response protocols, and monkeypox prevention and response in workplaces and high-risk commercial establishments.
City Health Officer Dr. Dulce Miravite confirmed that they have conducted contact tracing activities on residents in the east coast here who were reportedly exposed to a three-year-old resident of Tungawan, Zamboanga Sibugay with a confirmed case of monkeypox.
Miravite, however, said that at present, Zamboanga City still has no monkeypox case.
She downplayed reports about a possible lockdown due to a spread of monkeypox, saying that at present, suspected cases have to be reported to the nearest health facility or to the CHO hotline for proper response.
She cited the possibility of using Covid-19 isolation facilities to accommodate monkeypox patients once cases are reported here.
