Mayor Jeannie pledges cleaner parks, safer streets in Malabon

"Sa panahon ngayon, hindi po natin pababayaan ang kalinisan at kaayusan sa bawat sulok ng Malabon, kabilang na rito ang mga parke na madalas binibisita ng mga Malabueno kasama ang kanilang mga pamilya upang mapalakas ang kanilang ugnayan, gayundin ay makapagpahinga (In these times, we will not neglect the cleanliness and orderliness of every corner of Malabon, including the parks frequently visited by Malabueños and their families to strengthen their bonds and find rest),” she said.
“Sisiguruhin po natin na ang kagandahan ng mga parke at mga kalsada ay siya ring parte ng ating mga inisyatibo para sa kaligtasan ng mga mamamayan (We will ensure that the beauty of our parks and roads is also part of our initiatives to safeguard the well-being of our citizens),” Sandoval added.
Sandoval said the city government is in regular coordination with national agencies like the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) to conduct cleanup operations throughout the city.
City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) chief Mark Mesina said that, aside from routine street and waterway cleanups, the city also works closely with MMDA under the “Adopt-A-Park” program, which currently covers three areas: Hulong Duhat Plaza, Catmon People's Park, and the C4 Center Island between Fisher Mall Malabon and Malabon City Square.
"Itong tatlong park na ito, mine-maintain natin ‘yung kalinisan, at may pagkakataon pa na katuwang natin ‘yung MMDA—nagtatanim sila ng mga halaman dito. Itong mga halaman dito, suporta rin ng LGU sa kanila para naman maging maayos ‘yung paligid (These three parks are kept clean, and sometimes we partner with the MMDA—they help put plants here. These plants are also supported by the LGU to help keep the surroundings beautiful and well-maintained)," he said.
He emphasized that open spaces give Malabueños room to relax, exercise, and enjoy time with loved ones.
“We often see families here early in the morning and late in the afternoon, talking, jogging, and sometimes holding events. The MMDA augmentation team is a big help in keeping these three parks well-maintained,” Mesina said.
Meanwhile, Malabon MMDA Area Supervisor Mike Belches said around 25 MMDA personnel were deployed daily to sweep streets, collect garbage, plant trees, and maintain cleanliness across the city.
These efforts show the strong partnership between the city government and the MMDA to keep Malabon clean and orderly, helping families live healthier and more comfortable lives.
Both Mesina and Belches called on residents to support the government’s cleanliness programs.
“The MMDA always supports the Malabon city government. We work together to keep the city clean and organized. We fully support Mayor Jeannie in keeping the environment beautiful,” Belches said.
Mesina also encouraged residents and barangay officials to report issues promptly and take proactive steps, noting that early communication allows the government to respond before problems escalate.
He reminded everyone to practice discipline, properly dispose of waste, and help prevent flooding and other hazards—especially now that the rainy season is approaching.
