Government anti-narcotics authorities nabbed on Tuesday, May 27, a Korean national for allegedly attempting to smuggle illegal drugs out of the country during a routine security screening at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) said.
During the conduct of the “Final Security Screening Checkpoint of the International Departure Area” at the NAIA Terminal 1, the NAIA Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group (IADITG) agents apprehended a Koraen nation at around 1 a.m. after ‘what was believed to be shabu’’ concealed in his sling bag was discovered.
Further search by authorities revealed that P34,000 worth of shabu was found in the suspect’s possession.
Authorities did not provide the identity of the Korean national.
The PDEA noted that the suspect was scheduled to board a flight to Incheon, Korea when he was caught.
Aside from shabu, the authorities also found drug paraphernalia, cellular phones, travel documents and identification cards from the suspect’s belongings.
The suspect who is currently in custody, faces charges for violation of Section 4 (Importation of Dangerous Drugs), Article II of Republic Act (RA) 9165, or the “The Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.’’
