ZAMBOANGA CITY – Zamboanga City Health Officer Dr. Dulce Miravite has called on residents here to be vigilant and help prevent the spread of monkeypox after a confirmed case of the disease was recorded in Zamboanga Sibugay over the weekend.
MIRAVITE
Miravite said there is no confirmed case of monkeypox in Zamboanga City but urged residents to observe precautionary measures such as avoiding crowded places, practicing proper hand hygiene, disinfecting frequently touched surfaces, and observing respiratory etiquette by covering their nose and mouth when coughing and sneezing.
She advised anyone who exhibits symptoms such as fever, skin rashes, and swollen lymph nodes to seek medical attention at the nearest health facility.
“The Zamboanga City Health Office together with other government health offices and facilities in the city have formulated a series of health protocols to ensure the prevention and containment of monkeypox and related diseases,” the CHO said.
The CHO issued the advisory after a health bulletin by the Provincial Health Office of Zamboanga Sibugay last Saturday informed the public of a monkeypox case.
The victim, a three-year-old boy, was admitted to the Dr. George T. Hofer Memorial Hospital after testing positive for the viral disease.
