“I have long been asking the Speaker, we are the only highly urbanized city in the Philippines that is not a lone district,” he said.
House Speaker Martin Romualdez’s cousin stressed the need to have a separate congressional district from the first district of Leyte for this city to have its own budget.
“We won’t need to share our budget with seven other towns. We will also have our own district office of DPWH,” Mayor Romualdez said.
Tacloban City became an HUC through a plebiscite in which the majority of residents voted in favor on Dec. 18, 2008.
