a“The safety and security of both tourists and locals remain a top priority,” said Police Lt. Col. Mar Joseph Ravelo, chief of police of Malay town in Aklan province.
The senator’s son, Julian Ejercito, and nephew were mauled by the suspects while walking on the front beach around 2 a.m. on Saturday, May 24.
The cousins sustained head and facial injuries in a crime deemed as “a senseless act in a place that should be a friendly community and a source of relaxation” by Sen. Estrada.
“We emphasize that this is an isolated incident and does not reflect the general peace and order situation in the area,” added Ravelo.
Based on initial investigation, the suspects initially saw the victims inside a bar.
The suspects followed the victims when they left the establishment and attacked them nearby.
A bystander witnessed the incident and yelled for help. A patrolling police officer responded to the area and the suspects fled.
Police arrested the suspects in a pursuit operation.
Ravelo said that they have filed complaints of physical injuries against the suspects before the Aklan Provincial Prosecutor’s Office.
