- The senator immediately flew to the world-famous tourist island in Aklan province upon learning of the incident.
Senate President Pro Tempore Jinggoy Estrada on Sunday, May 25 condemned the assault against his son and nephew who were vacationing in Boracay.
Estrada immediately flew to the island in Aklan province upon learning of the incident.
“It's unfortunate that my son Julian and his cousin Jefferelly Vitug had their vacation in Boracay marred by an act of violence. Early Saturday, they were assaulted by three young men,” Estrada said in a statement.
“Bilang ama at tiyuhin, hindi maiiwasan na labis akong mag-alala nang makarating sa akin ang masamang balita. Kaya’t dali-dali akong pumunta para alamin ang nangyari at kalagayan nila (As a father and as an uncle, I can’t help but be anxious when I learned of the bad news. I immediately went out learn about what happened and to check on them),” he said.
“No parent or relative ever wants to hear that their loved ones have been victims of such a senseless act in a place that should be a friendly community and a source of relaxation,” he added.
While charges have already been filed against the suspects, the senator said he trusts that the proper authorities will investigate the case thoroughly and ensure that justice is served.
“My family and I are grateful that our loved ones are safe now, but we hope incidents like this serve as a reminder of the need to create a safer environment for everyone,” he stressed.
Estrada’s son reportedly left a bar and was walking towards the direction of a mini-mall adjacent to the front beach when three men approached him.
One of the three men reportedly started beating Julian and threw him on the ground. The other two men then also proceeded to punch the lawmaker’s son.
Though the victim’s name was not released by police, Julian posted on his Instagram story.
“To everyone expecting to see me at Epic tonight, I won’t be able to make it.
Got caught in a really unfortunate situation last night and need time to recover, both physically and mentally appreciate all your understanding and support. See you soon.”
