Senate President Pro Tempore Jinggoy Estrada was resolute following the latest Chinese aggression at-sea, and declared that Filipinos would neither be intimidated nor cowed by the incident. "This no longer comes as a surprise, given that the China Coast Guard (CCG) has been continuously harassing our maritime scientists and uniformed personnel for several years now, with no signs of letting up," Estrada said in a statement over the weekend. The Senate leader was referring to the CCG's recent water attack on a vessel of the Philippine Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) in the West Philippine Sea (WPS)."Nonetheless, we will not be intimidated and will stand our ground in protesting each and every provocation and violation of our sovereignty and dignity," Estrada said.He said the Philippines must "immediately file a firm and unequivocal diplomatic protest against these repeated transgressions"."We will not be cowed. We will not be silenced. We will stand our ground through lawful and diplomatic means," underscored the veteran lawmaker from San Juan City.Estrada said the latest incident "highlights the urgent need to strengthen our alliances with like-minded nations who share our commitment to peace, stability, and the rule of law in the region"."Dapat natin palakasin ang pakikipag-ugnayan at security cooperation sa ating mga kaalyado para maprotektahan ang ating mga kababayan at ang ating territorial integrity (We must strengthen our engagement and security cooperation with our allies to protect our people and our territorial integrity)," he further said.
