A 61-year-old tricycle driver died while a 54-year-old cyclist sustained multiple injuries in a road mishap in Caloocan City on Friday, May 23.

According to the Northern Police District (NPD), the incident occurred at 5:35 a.m. along C3 Road in Barangay 22.
Based on the initial investigation, the tricycle and the bicycle were both heading west in the outermost lane of the road when a truck behind them hit the tricycle first.
Police said the right side of the truck struck and dragged the left portion of the tricycle for several meters, causing it to swerve and sideswipe the nearby cyclist.
The tricycle driver was thrown onto the pavement and was rushed to the Tondo Medical Center where he was declared dead on arrival at 7:45 a.m.
Meanwhile, the cyclist was brought to Caloocan City Medical Center for treatment.
The truck driver was placed under police custody following the crash.
“This arrest highlights the swift action of our personnel. Proactive measures like this are essential in preserving peace and order,” NPD chief Brig. Gen. Josefino Ligan said.
The police expressed their condolences to the victim’s family and assured them that all efforts will be taken to ensure that justice is served.
