Three-time UAAP MVP and National University star Bella Belen remained uncertain about her plans of pursuing a professional career in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) even after putting her name in this year’s Rookie Draft.
During her appearance in Noli Eala’s Power and Play show, the 22-year-old Belen admitted she is taking her time as she is open to more opportunities
that might arise.
“Hindi pa po (sure kung magiging final sa draft) kasi po parang pwede pa po mag-withdraw until the day of Draft Combine,” said Belen, who recently powered the Lady Bulldogs to their first back-to-back title in league history.
“So after combine na po malalaman kung final na akong magpapa-draft,” she added.
With a myriad of accolades and her skills on the floor, Belen is projected to become No. 1 overall pick in next month’s draft night.
The first-ever UAAP Rookie-MVP said she is focusing on her national team duties as Alas Pilipinas competes in the VTV Cup and AVC Women’s Volleyball Nations Cup both in Vietnam in a few months“Sa national team po muna since sunod-sunod narin po ‘yong liga for [them],” Belen said.
More than a week ago, the 5-foot-8 hitter steered the Sherwin Meneses-coached squad to its third championship in four years after beating the Angel Canino-led De La Salle Lady Spikers.
Meanwhile, her teammates Erin Pangilinan and Sheena Toring also disclosed their plans of participating in the draft. Alyssa Solomon, for her part, is seeking an overseas stint which Belen is also open to consideration.
Aside from Belen, Pangilinan, and Toring, other collegiate aces joining the draft are Ateneo’s AC Miner and Lyann De Guzman, and Far Eastern University’s Jean Asis and Chen Tagaod, to list a few.
