A magnitude 5.4 earthquake struck parts of Northern Luzon on Saturday, May 24, shaking several provinces but causing no immediate reports of damage or injuries, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
In its Earthquake Information No. 1, Phivolcs reported that the tectonic quake occurred at 10:36 a.m.
The epicenter was located about 31 kilometers north northwest of Luna, La Union, the agency added.
According to Phivolcs, the tremor was felt at Intensity IV in the cities of Candon and Vigan in Ilocos Sur, where residents reported light shaking that may have disturbed hanging objects and caused minor movement of unsecured items.
In Sinait, Ilocos Sur, the quake was felt at Intensity III, while Intensity II was recorded in Bangued, Abra; Tagudin, Ilocos Sur; San Fernando and Aringay, La Union; and the towns of Bani, Infanta, and Bolinao in Pangasinan.
Meanwhile, a weaker Intensity I was reported in the City of Baguio.
Phivolcs said no aftershocks or damage were expected, but it will continue to monitor the situation.
