Magnolia head coach Chito Victolero is not one to push the panic button after just one loss.

Not when the Hotshots remain atop the standings with a 6-1 record and the team getting a much-needed wake-up call.

But Magnolia is surely not allowing a second straight defeat when it takes on NorthPort in an out-of-town game in the PBA Season 49 Philippine Cup at the Candon City Arena in Ilocos Sur on Saturday, May 24.

Determined to not waste their impressive start, the Hotshots are going back to the drawing board and apply the lessons from their first loss when they lock horns with the Batang Pier at 7:30 p.m. before an expected another big crowd.

“I think we need to go back to the basics, go back again watch the film then sabi ko nga kanina wala namang natalo, natuto lang. Natuto kami doon na it's not easy to win,” said Victolero after Magnolia's 105-119 loss to Rain or Shine.

Unlike in their first three games, the Hotshots were outmatched and outplayed by the Elasto Painters who easily dictated the pace of the contest, throwing Magnolia out of its rhythm in the process.

But such challenges is what the Hotshots need to overcome, according to Victolero, especially if they wish to contend for the All-Filipino crown.

“I told the players, it’s not easy. We will experience all the challenges of this conference. I think nakita na namin ngayon [Sunday]. So we need to go back again to the basics and work hard in preparation for our next game,” he added.

Out to put up a challenge against Magnolia is NorthPort, which despite missing the services of main man Arvin Tolentino, remains formidable with Joshua Munzon, William Navarro and Evan Nelle leading the way.

Spearheading Magnolia, meanwhile, are Paul Lee, who has rediscovered his deadly form from the outside, and rising star Zav Lucero, who has been a foundation inside the paint for Magnolia.

Ian Sangalang, Jerom Lastimosa and Calvin Abueva are also expected to provide ample support.
