A 16-year-old girl was rescued after a tricycle driver attempted to force her into a love hotel in Antipolo, Rizal, early Friday morning, May 23.
Barangay Mambugan officials reported that the victim hailed a tricycle along Marcos Highway at around 3 a.m. after finishing her duty as a part-time waitress.
"Kuya ibaba mo nalang po ako dito kasi hindi naman po ako dito nagpapadala eh. Binilisan nya pa po lalo 'yung takbo tapos natatakot na po ako kasi hindi po sya nakikinig sakin (I told him to please just drop me off here because this is not my way home. Instead of stopping, he sped up further, and this made me very scared because he was not listening to me)," the victim said.
The tricycle driver brought the girl to a love hotel and forced her to enter.
"Hinila niya po ako. Tapos pumasok po kami doon sa hotel kasi manghihingi po sana ako ng tulong kaso natatakot po ako sa kaniya (He pulled me while entering the hotel. I was supposed to ask for help from the hotel staff, but I was too scared of him)," the victim said.
Barangay Mambugan Violence against Women and Children (VAWC) officer Rodila Juliano said that the hotel's cashier became suspicious of the driver actions.
"Yung pera n'ya hindi tinanggap kasi nahalata nung cashier na parang may iba. Sinabi nung cashier 'Sir sigurado po ba kayo?' Sabi nya 'oo syota ko yan.' Pero parang iba talaga kaya hindi n'ya tinanggap 'yung bayad (His payment was not accepted by the cashier because she felt like something is off between the two. She asked the driver if he is sure about them checking-in, to which he replied that the girl is his girlfriend. The cashier remained suspicious and did not accept the driver's payment)," Juliano said.
The hotel's CCTV also saw the driver pleading for the girl to spend the night with him.
"Sinabi ko po na ire-report ko po s'ya pag hindi n'ya po ako tinigilan. Iniwanan n'ya nalang po ako doon kasi nadinig din po 'yun nung cashier (I threatened him that I would report him if he forced me further. He left me there after the cashier heard the commotion)," the victim said.
The girl was able to ask for help from her family who immediately reported the incident to the barangay.
Authorities later identified the tricycle driver through the help of the TODA officer in charge of his route.
The victim's family is now coordinating with the police regarding the filing of charges against the driver.
