The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) on Friday, May 23, announced the opening of the Governor Camins/MCLL Highway and Veterans Avenue Flyover in Zamboanga City, marking the first flyover in the Zamboanga Peninsula region.
DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan said the P450-million, 437-meter flyover aims to ease traffic congestion at one of the city’s busiest intersections and improve travel efficiency for motorists and cargo carriers.
Strategically located, the project is expected to reduce travel time, enhance road safety, and support the region’s expanding economic activities.
Local officials, representatives from the Asian Development Bank, and national agencies joined the final inspection on Thursday highlighting the flyover’s significance in advancing regional progress.
The DPWH said the milestone is part of the agency's nationwide infrastructure modernization program designed to improve connectivity and stimulate economic growth in underdeveloped areas across the country.
