The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) inspected the rehabilitation of a key highway and bridge project linking Zamboanga Sibugay and Zamboanga del Norte on Thursday, May 22.
DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan and ADB Vice-President Scott Morris led officials from the Department of Finance (DOF), Department of Economy, Planning and Development (DEPDev), and DPWH project teams in evaluating the project’s progress.
The inspection focused on the flagship sub-project under the Improving Growth Corridors for Mindanao Road Sector Project (IGCMRSP), which is part of the "Build Better More" infrastructure program.
The project involves rehabilitating more than 24 kilometers of concrete pavement and six bridges, including the R.T. Lim–Siocon Road, a vital artery supporting regional connectivity and economic growth in Mindanao.
DPWH Senior Undersecretary Emil K. Sadain reported that 95 percent of the roadworks are complete, with most pavement laid and finishing touches underway, while five of six bridges have been finished and the last nearing completion.
Valued at P2.396 billion and funded by ADB, the project is on track for turnover by the third quarter of 2025 and aims to improve climate resilience and inclusive growth through safer, more efficient infrastructure.
Also present were DEPDev Undersecretary Joseph Capuno and Assistant Secretary Roderick Planta; DOF Undersecretary Joven Balbosa and Assistant Secretary Donalyn Minimo; DPWH Project Directors Teresita V. Bauzon and Benjamin Bautista; and ADB officials led by Director General Winfried Wicklein and Country Director Pavit Ramachandran.
