Solicitor General Menardo I. Guevarra said on Thursday morning, May 22, he will submit his courtesy resignation to the Office of the President.
Guevarra said his move is in response to the call made by President Marcos who asked all Cabinet members to hand in their courtesy resignation.
The solicitor general, the government’s principal law officer and legal defender, has the rank of a Cabinet member.
“We’ll all just comply, continue working, and wait,” said Guevarra who served as justice secretary under the administration of former President Rodrigo R. Duterte.
He reminded that “all members of the Cabinet serve at the pleasure of the President.”
He added that the Office of the Solicitor General (OSG) has been “very proud of its work for the country.”
In asking the courtesy resignation of all Cabinet members, the President said the move was made following the results of the elections and is meant “to realign government with the people’s expectations.
“The people have spoken, and they expect results — not politics, not excuses. We hear them, and we will act,” the President declared.
