Here are the records that could be broken at the 51st American Music Awards:
OVERALL
Taylor Swift could increase her record as the most awarded artist in the history of the AMAs - she has won staggering 40 awards, and she is nominated for six more awards in 2025, which could bring her total to 46 AMAs.
Kendrick Lamar could break the record for the most AMAs won in a single ceremony, which is currently held by Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston, who both won eight awards–Jackson in 1984 and Houston in 1994. This year, Lamar is nominated for 10 AMAs one of which is twice in the same category, so he could win up to nine AMAs, thus potentially breaking the long-standing record.
ARTIST OF THE YEAR
Taylor Swift could extend her record as the most awarded person in the Artist of the Year category at the AMAs. She has won seven times (2009, 2011, 2013, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2022).
Ariana Grande could become only the fourth artist in history (and the second female artist) to win in the Artist of the Year category at the AMAs on multiple occasions. She last won in 2016, so a win in 2025 would be her second, joining multi-winners Justin Bieber (two wins), One Direction (two wins) and Taylor Swift (seven wins).
FAVORITE FEMALE POP ARTIST
Taylor Swift could extend her record as the most awarded person in the Favorite Female Pop Artist of the Year category at the AMAs. She has won seven times (2009, 2013, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022).
FAVORITE POP/ROCK ALBUM
Taylor Swift could extend her record as the most awarded person in the Favorite Pop/Rock Album category at the AMAs. She has won five times (2015, 2018, 2019, 2021 and 2022).
FAVORITE RAP/HIP HOP MALE ARTIST
Eminem could increase his record as the most awarded artist in the Favorite Rap/Hip hop Male Artist category. He has won in this category four times (2003, 2005, 2006 and 2010).
FAVORITE RAP/HIP HOP FEMALE ARTIST
Megan Thee Stallion could join Nicki Minaj, Missy Elliot and Cardi B as the only rapper to win on multiple occasions in the Favorite Rap/Hip Hop Female Artist category. She first won in 2021, so a win in 2025 would be her second.
FAVORITE RAP/HIP HOP ALBUM
Kendrick Lamar (nominated for “GNX”) or Eminem (nominated for “The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce)” could tie Nicki Minaj’s record for the most wins in the Favorite Rap/Hip Hop Album category. Lamar and Eminem have won twice each while Minaj has won three times, so if either of them wins in 2025, that would be their third victory.
FAVORITE RAP/HIP HOP SONG
Future could join Cardi B as the only artist to win on multiple occasions in the Favorite Rap/Hip Hop Song category. Cardi B has won thrice while Future won once in 2022 for “Wait for U”, so a win in 2025 for “Like That” would be his second.
FAVORITE ELECTRONIC/DANCE ARTIST
Marshmello could extend his record as the most awarded artist in the Favorite Electronic/Dance Artist category. He has won four times (2018, 2019, 2021 and 2022), so a win in 2025 would be his fifth (and third consecutive).
Charli XCX could become only the second female artist to ever win in the Favorite Electronic/Dance Artist category, joining Lady Gaga who won in 2020.
FAVORITE ROCK ARTIST
Linkin Park could extend their record as the most awarded artist in the Favorite Rock Artist category. They have won six times (2003, 2004, 2007, 2008, 2012 and 2017) so a win in 2025 would be their seventh.
