- Makati city mayor-elect Sen. Nancy Binay said she is ready to hold dialogues with her sister, defeated senatorial candidate Mayor Abby Binay and Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano.
Makati City mayor-elect and outgoing Senator Nancy Binay said she is ready to reach out to her sister, outgoing Makati mayor Abby Binay and reelected Taguig City mayor Lani Cayetano.
Binay, who is set to end her second six-year term as senator on June 30, said she will approach them once she formally assumes her post as the new Makati City mayor.
The senator won against her brother-in-law Rep. Luis Campos, husband of her sister in the May 2025 midterm elections.
Mayor Abby Binay, on the other hand, ran for senator under the Bagong Alyansa slate but lost during the elections.
“Okay lang sa aking mag -initiate (It’s okay for me to initiate a dialogue),” Senator Binay said in a Kapihan sa Senado on Thursday, May 22.
Among the issues they need to resolve, Binay said are the assets of the Makati local government which are now under the control of Taguig City by virtue of a Supreme Court decision, and involve schools, health centers, a hospital and park located in 10 barangays.
More importantly, she cited the need to form transition teams to address the legal status of the so-called “Embo” barangays.
“I’m not familiar with the legal situation of the Embo barangays,” she said.
Binay also said she will study the Makati City subway project which is now subject to an arbitration case.
“We need to study it because that’s going to be additional expense for the city. We need to hire our own lawyers,” she said.
“But I do believe we need to have mass transportation. I’m open to the idea,” the senator said.
