Niña Ytang, Irah Jaboneta, and Joan Monares have decided to play their final eligible year for University of the Philippines in the UAAP Season 88 women's volleyball tournament, the school announced Thursday, May 22.
Ytang, the league's three-time Best Middle Blocker, and outside hitters Jaboneta and Monares were pivotal in UP's Season 87 run, finishing with a 6-8 record and tied for fifth place with Adamson.
Ytang averaged 11.21 points per contest while also listing 0.55 blocks per set. On the other hand, Jaboneta registered 10.7 points per game while having 38.6 percent in receiving efficiency. Monares, for her part, tallied 12.21 points and 0.25 aces each frame.
"Napakalaking bagay na babalik silang tatlo para sa atin kasi gusto natin that our women's volleyball team will keep the fire burning kapag second sem," said Office of Athletics and Sports Development Director Bo Perasol.
“Now that Nina, Joan, and Irah are all returning, we are sure na the UP community ay lalong mawiwiling sumuporta,” he added.
With their commitment, the troika will banner the Benson Bocboc-guided crew that also features rising stars in Jaz Manguilimotan and Kianne Olango alongside Kizzie Madriaga, Jelai Gajero and Casiey Dongallo, who is set for her Maroon debut next year.
The State U aims to break its eighth-season Final Four drought.
