Las Piñas Mayor-elect April Aguilar ordered teams from the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) to remove campaign materials right after the election through “Oplan Baklas.”
Aguilar said the CENRO team, as part of their upcycling project, converted the collected tarpaulins into aprons and eco-bags to extend their usefulness and reduce the amount of waste sent to landfills.
She said CENRO’s initiative also supports City Ordinance No. 1036-11, which is “An ordinance banning the use and distribution of thin film, single-use, carry-out plastic bags and polystyrene foam by commercial establishments in the city.”
The mayor-elect also said the ordinance highlights the city’s commitment to reducing single-use plastics and promoting sustainable living.
CENRO added that the upcycling project helps minimize landfill waste, reduce carbon emissions, promote a circular economy, and inspire sustainable choices.
