Incoming Mamamayang Liberal (ML) Party-list Rep. Leila de Lima says that President Marcos must show his sincerity--among other things--to make his ongoing revamp of his Cabinet work.

This, as the former senator recognized the wisdom behind Marcos' decision.

"I take note of the President’s decision to reorganize his Cabinet following the administration’s performance in the midterm elections," De Lima said in a Facebook post Thursday, May 22.

"Pero, kailangan munang ipakita ni PBBM (But PBBM must show these): first, his sincerity, and second, his decisiveness and firmness in his governance.

"Otherwise, magpapatuloy ang nagiging perception ng marami na isa na siyang lame duck na pangulo (the perception of many that he's a lame duck president will persisit)," the former Department of Justice (DOJ) secretary warned.

President Marcos launched the recamp on Thursday morning with a rather surprising call for all his Cabinet secretaries to tender their courtesy resignations. It remains to be seen who will be retained and replaced.

De Lima said Marcos' move "reflects an awareness that the public expects more—more coherence, more competence, and more decisive leadership from this government".

"A Cabinet revamp, if done right, can serve as a necessary reset in the remaining half of his term," she said of Marcos, who assumed the Palace post in 2022.
