'I serve at the pleasure of the President' — DSWD chief
Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Rex Gatchalian announced on Thursday, May 22 that he would immediately submit his courtesy resignation, following President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive for all Cabinet secretaries to do so.
In a post on X, Gatchalian wrote, “I serve at the pleasure of the President.”
In his resignation letter filed on Thursday morning, the DSWD chief thanked President Marcos for “giving me the opportunity to work in this position for two years and three months.”
“I deeply appreciate the trust and confidence that was bestowed upon me and to have served the people under this administration,” he added.
This move follows President Marcos’ call for all Cabinet secretaries to submit their resignations to reassess his administration after the results of the midterm elections.
Malacañang said the courtesy resignations aim to provide the President with the flexibility to assess department performance and realign appointments with his administration’s recalibrated priorities.
