The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) warned that erring local elected officials can be dismissed or suspended from office through a court order.
Pursuant to Section 60 of the Local Government Code of 1991, the DILG explained that actions unbecoming of a public official may warrant disciplinary sanctions as provided by a court order.
The DILG noted that among such infractions include disloyalty to the Republic of the Philippines, violation (culpable violation) of the Trust of Law (Constitution);lying, tyranny, mismanagement of office, excessive negligence (gross negligence), or neglect of duty (dereliction of duty); any offense involving moral turpitude or offense that can be punished by at least a prison mayor;excess of power; no permission to postpone 15 working days (working days), except in the case of members of the city council, town council and barangay council; having an application to obtain, citizenship of, or residence in, another country; or status as an immigrant of another country and other grounds that may be provided for in the Local Government Code of 1991 and other pertinent laws.
With the observance of the International Anti-Corruption Day on Dec. 9 each year, the  DILG explained that it aims to raise public awareness on the fight against corruption, ways to fight it, and what people can do to lessen, if not help to eliminate it.
Since the United Nations Convention Against Corruption was ratified on Oct. 31, 2003, the DILG noted that the International Anti-Corruption Day (IACD) has been celebrated every year
.The DILG together with other stakeholders expressed overwhelming support in the government’s drive to thwart all forms of corruption practices in a bid to sustain a business-friendly environment.
DILG-National Capital Region (NCR) Assistant Director Ana Lyn Cortez urged the local government units (LGUs) and other partner groups to consistently enforce lawful actions to foster a “conducive landscape for economic prosperity.
’’She assured that the DILG will be in constant coordination with its “partners’’ in relentlessly developing protocols and other interventions “that will be for the best interest of the transacting public.’’
Cortez also encouraged all the concerned parties to “work with us to achieve the call of our President to replace red tape with a red carpet and give the best and quality service to the people.
”As the implementing agency of the SGLG (Seal of Good Local Governance) program for LGUs and one of the forefront drivers of the Ease of Doing Business and Efficient Government Service Delivery Act of 2018 (Republic Act No. 11032), Cortez stressed that “the DILG-NCR remains steadfast in supporting the local government units through coaching sessions, trainings, and interventions in the region to achieve a business-friendly and competitive localities.
’’In a recent “Business-Friendliness and Competitiveness (BFC) Indicators activity, the DILG-NCR recognized that the goal is to “refresh’’ the knowledge of the LGUs on the strategies in amplifying the local business environment for a distinguishable economic development.
Moreover, the DILG-NCR asserted its importance as it highlighted the salient features of the Ease of Doing Business (EODB) and Efficient Government Service Delivery Act of 2018 (R.A. 11032), the institutionalization of Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) and successful practices in sustaining a business-friendly and competitive LGU.
