"I hereby respectfully tender my courtesy resignation as Executive Secretary, Office of the President. Upon your acceptance, the undersigned will immediately begin the process of turning over in an orderly manner all the matters pending in my office," Bersamin said in his letter on Thursday, May 22.
"It has been an honor to be a member of your Cabinet, Mr. President. I will continue to serve the Filipino people alongside you towards a Bagong Pilipinas," he added.
Bersamin was among the number of Cabinet members who submitted their resignation letters promptly after Marcos issued his call on Thursday morning.
The President called for the courtesy resignation of all Cabinet secretaries, a decisive move to recalibrate his administration following the results of the recent elections.
In a statement, the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) said the request for courtesy resignations is aimed at giving the President the elbow room to evaluate the performance of each department and determine who will continue to serve in line with his administration’s recalibrated priorities.
The President said "it’s time to realign government with the people’s expectations."
"This is not business as usual. The people have spoken, and they expect results—not politics, not excuses. We hear them, and we will act," he said.
