Anusarn Night Market is home to an exciting mix of the city’s nightlife. For the shopaholics, there are tons of vendors selling magnets, textiles, original artworks, and other various souvenirs you can bring home. A common theme among items being offered is elephants, as Chiang Mai is also a go-to spot for visiting elephant sanctuaries. Foodies looking to try local delicacies can roam around Chill Square, where you can try staples like Pad Thai. If you time your visit right, you can enjoy food and drinks while watching traditional Thai dancers or be serenaded with classic hits by buskers.

Aside from the food and souvenirs, Anusarn Night Market also knows how to party. Two locations offering wildly different experiences are conveniently located next to each other, the Chiang Mai Cabaret Show and the Fairtex Chiang Mai Anusarn Boxing Stadium. One offers a loud-and-proud drag show experience while the latter shows an adrenaline-fueled Muay Thai boxing match that runs until midnight. Both draw quite a crowd as their lines can stretch out once it’s showtime.

Another unique draw for tourists in the area is its numerous marijuana dispensaries. Thailand takes the unique position of being one of the few countries in Asia to have decriminalized weed. In Chiang Mai, it isn’t hard to spot any signs with the prominent leaf symbol. You could walk into any dispensary and buy different kinds of ganja so long as you’re of age (20). In one of the stores at the Anusarn Night Market, you can buy it in the form of cannabis oil for muscle relief, edibles for sleeping, or different strains for smoking. As enticing as it sounds, however, it’s preferable to have a doctor’s prescription before partaking to be on the safe side.

If you’re looking to feel a spiritual awakening on a less trippy scale, just a short walk from the night market is the Wat Si Don Chai. It’s one of the quieter and smaller temples in the area where you can stop and reflect for a bit. Or if you’d prefer to take a breather, take your pick at any of the Thai massage establishments.

By the time you’ve ventured through all these spots, you’ll find that even one night in Chiang Mai is enough to leave lasting memories.
