3 dead in tricycle-bus collision in Ilocos Sur

Three persons were killed in a collision between a bus and a tricycle on the national highway in Barangay San Pablo, Santo Domingo, Ilocos Sur before dawn today, Thursday, May 22.
Police Lt. Roger Retreta, Santo Domingo deputy chief of police, identified the victims as tricycle driver Claro V. Tapaya Sr., 65, and passengers Michelle from Barangay Pagburnayan, Vigan City, Ilocos Sur and Grace of Barangay Bongtolan, Vigan City.
Investigation said the tricycle stopped on the road shoulder to execute a U-turn but Tapaya failed to notice the oncoming GMW bus, resulting in a collision.
Victims sustained serious and declared dead in a hospital.
The bus driver, Julius P. Jardinero, 42, of Barangay Pagsanaan, Magsingal, Ilocos Sur, and his passengers were unhurt.
Retreta said damage to property is yet to be determined and follow-up investigation is ongoing.
