Willie Miller stepped down as head coach of the Letran Squires but remained as a consultant for the team, the school announced Wednesday, May 21.

After a one-year stint for Letran’s junior squad in the NCAA juniors basketball tournament, the 47-year-old Miller had to let go of the position due to a Converge policy which prohibits its staff from guiding other squads.

Despite this, Miller will still be part of the Letran program as a consultant.

“We understand the situation with Coach Willie and Converge’s policy. We respect it and we’re just thankful that he still wants to help our boys in any way he can,” said Letran Athletics Director Fr. Vic Calvo, OP.

“He’s still part of our family, and we value the work he’s done with our juniors team,” he added.

Calvo also stated that Letran Knights chief tactician Allen Ricardo will temporarily lead the juniors’ training sessions.

Miller had a good run in his first year at the Squires’ helm, guiding them to a 6-3 slate in the eliminations to earn a twice-to-be advantage.

Unfortunately, Miller and the Squires bowed twice to the La Salle Green Hills Greenies in the semifinals before losing to the San Beda Red Cubs in a knockout battle-for-third match.

"Nakakatuwa and memorable ang journey natin ng Season 100.,i will cherish our time forever. Goodluck sa mga mag move up sa next level, and sa mga mag stay pa sa high school basketball," Miller wrote on his social media post.

"Keep on working hard and stay disciplined. Do not listen to those who don't have your best interest at heart! Stay focused!"
