Septuagenarian Israeli drowns in Biliran

TACLOBAN CITY – A 74-year-old Israeli
national drowned in the sea of Barangay Matanggo, Almeria, Biliran, on Tuesday, May 20.
Police said the victim was staying at Soyin Beach Resort in Barangay Talahid, Almeria.
The victim was a regular customer of Soyin’s Resort since 2016.
He would usually stay there for six months then return to Israel.
Resort staff said he goes out to swim daily and return to his room by 4 p.m.
On Monday, staff noticed that he has not returned since leaving for a swim.
They sought the assistance of the Naval Coast Guard that conducted a search and rescue operation but failed to recover his body.
His body was found floating by fishermen.
Initial post-mortem examination discovered small abrasions on his face and head and concluded that he drowned.
The victim had a history of fatigue. He was rescued at sea by the Coast Guard and concerned residents last March.
