Renowned sushi chef Okajima of Tsukiji restaurant dies

Beloved sushi chef remembered for his impact on Philippine dining

Chef Okajima, the esteemed sushi master of Tsukiji Restaurant, has died, the restaurant announced yesterday, May 20.
In a statement shared on social media, the restaurant described Okajima as a beloved figure whose creativity and warmth helped make Tsukiji one of Asia’s top dining destinations. The post expressed deep gratitude for his contributions and stated that his legacy will live on through the memories he created and the lives he touched.
“It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Chef Okajima, beloved Sushi Master Chef of Tsukiji Restaurant,” the post read. “Arigato gozaimasu. Thank you, Chef Oka, for everything. You are greatly missed.”
Details on the cause of death or age were not immediately released.
