BACOLOD CITY – A 34-year-old man was pinned to death by a concrete electric post near a public market in Barangay Zone 4, Cadiz City, Negros Occidental on Tuesday, May 20.
Freak accident: Man pinned to death by collapsed concrete utility pole
The victim was identified as Cyrel, a resident of Barangay Cabahug, Cadiz City.
Police Master Sgt. Dioscoro de Jose III, commander of the Cadiz police substation in the area who witnessed the incident, said that an old wooden utility pole suddenly toppled.
Cables connected to the wooden utility pole pulled down a concrete electric post and a hanging transformer exploded.

The victim who was driving a motorcycle was hit and pinned by the concrete post.
Rescuers extricated Cyrel who was taken to a hospital where he was declared dead. The victim was on his way to fetch his wife from work when the incident happened.
Four tricycles and De Jose’s car were also damaged by the toppled concrete post. The area was cleared of debris after an hour.
In a Facebook post, the Northern Negros Electric Cooperative (Noneco) announced an emergency power interruption in some parts of the city due to the incident.
The power firm said that a primary pole collapsed after a mixer truck accidentally struck the messenger wires.
Investigation said the truck did not cause the post to collapse.
Power was fully restored at 10:21 p.m. after a 45-foot steel pole and new primary lines in the area were put up.
