Actress Ruffa Gutierrez expressed excitement about her daughters, Lorin and Venice Bektas, who are revisiting Manila after their school break in the US.
During the launch of her latest endorsement for Magical Gems by Isabel and Alexandria at Hashi Pan Asian Premium in Greenhills on May 20, Ruffa shared her advice about love and the lessons she has learned in life with her daughters. The former beauty queen cautioned her daughters against being courted on the streets.
"I tell Lorin and Venice, huwag kayong makipagkita sa kalye. Or mag uusap lang kayo sa Instagram at nagpapakilala. Hindi ako naniniwala sa ganun. Kailangan pumunta sila sa sa bahay, humarap sila, magpakilala sila, at magbigay sila ng fruits. (I tell Lorin and Venice, don't meet on the street. Or just talk on Instagram and introduce yourself. I don't believe in that. They need to come to the house, they need to show up, they need to introduce themselves, and they need to give fruits)," said Ruffa.
She added: "Sabi nila, 'Why fruits? Puwede bang macaroons naman?' Sabi ko pwede basta magpakilala sila sa bahay. I still stand for those values. The values that our parents taught us. So ayoko yung nagkikita sila sa labas unless barkada lang nila talaga. (They said, 'Why fruits? Can we have macaroons?' I said they could introduce themselves at home. I still stand for those values. The old-fashioned values our parents taught us. So I don't like them meeting outside unless they're just friends.)
Ruffa mentioned that she has already begun teaching her children about independence at an early age.
"Kanina si Venice sabi niya meron daw siyang cute na crush. But I tell them straight na para lang kaming magkakabarkada. (Venice said earlier that she had a cute crush. But I tell them straight like we're just friends.)

"I told her tapusin mo muna pag-aaral mo. The boys will come. Pero pareho kami ng sinabi. We don't have to look for a crush. They have to look for me. Tama! Sabi ko then have to look for you so bakit ikaw ang naghahanap ng crush mo? Lagi ko silang bine-brainwash, and I have succeeded. With the kids, I always tell them that one day, if they get married, they have to be with someone who is God-fearing, masipag, and someone who loves them.
"Set them free and make them fly using their wings so that they will become independent and not just rely on me. I also want them to be financially independent. Most especially, they should never rely on a man," said Ruffa, who will star in the upcoming series, "Beauty Empire," a collaboration among GMA Network, Viu Philippines, and CreaZion Studios.
Sole provider
Ruffa, who is turning 51 on June 24, is grateful to have supported her kids' education through college."Sa education ng mga bata, I am the sole provider. And I'm proud of that. Unless bumalik ako sa Istanbul, maaalagaan na ako ni Yilmaz (Bektas) but I think that would be impossible," she said.
Ruffa expressed gratitude that she has never needed to sell her jewelry to send her children to school."Hindi pa ako umabot sa ganun. I am blessed na maraming kumukuha sa akin sa mga show, endorsement and investments. And then my mom and Richard would give Lorin and Venice kahit papaano. So tulong-tulong din sila minsan. Pag may extra money si mom, nag bibigay din siya. Pero hindi na umaabot sa ganun. (I haven't gotten to that point yet. I am blessed that many people hire me for shows, endorsements and I made some investments. And then my mom and Richard would give Lorin and Venice some way. So they also help out sometimes. When mom has extra money, she also gives. But it doesn't reach that point anymore.)
"Sana hindi kasi si Lorin nagta-trabaho na rin. She will finish early next year so basically isa na lang ang pag-aaralin ko. But if there's an opportunity na kailangan kong magbenta, at least may mai-bebenta ako. (Lorin is also working. She will finish early next year, so I will only have one more child to send to school. However, if an opportunity arises where I need to sell, at least I will have something to sell).
:"So thank God and through the years nakapag save ako. Of course, not all the time are we successful. Sometimes may mga months na slow ang work. Meron namang days na, when it rains, it pours, especially in show business. (So thank God, and through the years I've been able to save. Of course, not all the time are we successful. Sometimes there are months when work is slow. There are days when it rains, it pours, especially in show business)," she also said.
Ruffa and Turkish businessman Yilmaz Bektas married in 2003. They have two children, Lorin and Venice. But Ruffa and Yilmaz separated. Their marriage was annulled in 2012.

When asked if she still dreams of getting married again, Ruffa answered: "I'm not closing my doors. I remember after the breakdown of my marriage with Yilmaz (Bektas), ayoko na magpakasal. I was traumatized.
"I go to Bible studies as well, sabi nila never say never. Kasi nga hindi natin masabi ang future.
"So I'm not closing my doors, but I'm happy with the way things are right now. So kung dumating man ang pagkakataon na magpapakasal uli ako in the future, sana yun na yung huli hanggang sa last breath of my living life. Siya na yung kasama ko. If not, dyowa-dyowa na lang. (So I'm not closing my doors, but I'm happy with the way things are right now. So, if the opportunity arises for me to get married again in the future, I hope it will be the last one until the end of my life. He will be my partner. If not, then let's be sweethearts)," she said.
During the launch event, Ruffa was warmly welcomed by Harry Lopez Chua, the owner of Magical Gems PH. She announced that she would be wearing Magical Gems jewelry in several scenes of her upcoming series "Beauty Empire," which is set to premiere in June. Additionally, she expressed her excitement about visiting Davao to open a new branch of the jewelry brand.
