Parañaque City Mayor Eric Olivarez said the activity was led by the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) in partnership with private firm Handling Innovation Inc. on Monday, May 19.
The event was organized by personnel from the Capacity Building and Training Services and Operations Section, in coordination with the DRRMO’s private sector partner. It aimed to equip employees with the knowledge and practical skills needed to respond effectively during seismic events.
During the orientation, participants were briefed on the basics of earthquake hazards, the importance of early preparedness, and the correct application of the “duck, cover, and hold” technique.
The mayor also said that employees learned how to identify safe zones, navigate evacuation routes, and follow post-earthquake protocols.
A drill was then carried out to test the company’s emergency response plan. Employees took part in evacuation procedures, accountability checks, and gathered at designated safe areas for headcounts and debriefing.
Olivarez said the exercise not only demonstrated Handling Innovation Inc.’s dedication to employee welfare but also contributed to broader community efforts to build disaster-resilient workplaces.
Dr. Ted Gonzalez, head of the City DRRMO, emphasized the importance of collaborating with the private sector to foster a culture of readiness and resilience across both public and private institutions.
