A 31-year-old man was shot to death by his neighbor after allegedly being mistaken for an “akyat-bahay” (thief) in Pasig City.

Before the incident, a barangay footage showed the victim, Nano, going to the suspect’s residence in Barangay Maybunga on Tuesday, May 13, to speak with him.
In a TV interview, the victim’s live-in partner said Nano was mistaken for a burglar. She added that the suspect allegedly claimed Nano was on their roof carrying a hammer.
However, witnesses said Nano was just outside the suspect’s house, reportedly searching for something. They added that CCTV footage showed the victim was not carrying a hammer, contrary to the suspect’s claim.
Witnesses also said the victim introduced himself to the suspect and explained that he was not a burglar but was just looking for something.
They added that Nano pleaded for his life, mentioning he has a two-year-old child, but the suspect refused to listen.
The incident was immediately responded to by Barangay Maybunga officials.
Barangay officials said that when they arrived at the scene, the victim was already lying face down and showed no signs of life. They added that he appeared to have been shot in the chest area, and the bullet may have exited through his side.
The suspect immediately fled the scene but later surrendered to authorities. He is now facing charges of homicide, illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, and violation of the election gun ban under the Omnibus Election Code.
The suspect is currently detained at the Pasig City Custodial Facility and has not yet made any statement.
