3 weather systems to bring rain showers across most of the Philippines
Scattered rain showers and thunderstorms are expected over most of the country due to a Low Pressure Area (LPA), the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ), and easterlies, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Tuesday, May 20.
PAGASA weather specialist Chenel Dominguez said the LPA, located 375 kilometers west-southwest of Aborlan, Palawan, or 295 kilometers south-southeast of Kalayaan, Palawan, has a low chance of developing into a tropical cyclone.
However, it may still bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Palawan.
Meanwhile, the ITCZ may affect Mindanao, Western Visayas, and Negros Island Region and bring cloudy skies and scattered rain showers with possible thunderstorms.
This weather system, where winds from the northern and southern hemispheres meet, may bring moderate to heavy rainfall that could trigger flash floods or landslides in vulnerable areas.
The warm winds from the Pacific Ocean, known as the easterlies, may also bring cloudy skies, scattered rain showers, and thunderstorms to Eastern Samar, Leyte, and Southern Leyte.
Dominguez warned residents affected by these weather systems against possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to occasionally heavy rainfall.
The rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms, also due to the easterlies.
The public is advised to remain vigilant during severe thunderstorms, which may cause flash floods or landslides.
