Police Capt. Liberty Indiape, spokesperson for the Bacolod City Police Office, said that they will be deployed in various venues and festival events.
The festival, with the theme “Fire and Fusion” that highlights the city’s rich culinary heritage and activities celebrating its iconic grilled chicken dish, inasal, opens on Wednesday morning, May 21, at SM City Bacolod, featuring a solidarity grilling at the mall’s north parking lot currently home to 24 Manokan Country vendors displaced by a P4-billion redevelopment project.
Festival events will span multiple venues, including Upper East Megaworld and Ayala Malls Capitol Central, featuring grilling contests, culinary workshops, nightly entertainment, and the prestigious Chicken Inasal Awards.
The festival has grown steadily since it was launched in 2018. In 2023, 70 vendors grilled 3,000 chicken inasals on a 320-meter stretch in a bid to break the world record for the longest chicken grilling line.
Councilor Celia Flor, chair of the Committee on Market, recently proposed an amendment to City Ordinance No. 482, Series of 2009, titled the Manokan Country Inasal Festival.
The proposed change would give the city flexibility to hold the festival in either April or May, depending on weather conditions.
