- As of May 19, police said a total of 97 validated election-related incidents were recorded
Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil, chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), ordered on Monday, May 19, all police units to immediately resolve all election-related incidents (ERIs) in relation to the recently-concluded midterm polls.
A total of 97 validated ERIs were recorded as of May 19 and Marbil said he wants to see the resolution of all these cases in the soonest possible time.
“This is a direct order from the President: we must not allow violence and intimidation to tarnish the democratic process. The PNP will act with speed, precision, and transparency to resolve all pending cases,” Marbil said.
The 97 validated ERIs are currently under investigation, with many cases already yielding initial leads.
Marbil said he already directed all Regional Directors and Provincial Directors to submit progress reports on these cases and ensure that all perpetrators are held accountable in accordance with the law.
“We owe it to the public to pursue these cases with the urgency they deserve. The peaceful conduct of the 2025 elections must be complemented by a justice system that works swiftly and effectively,” said Marbil.
Aside from gun attacks, police also recorded vote-buying and vote-selling in some parts of the country.
More than 163,000 PNP personnel were deployed to safeguard polling precincts, assist election officials, and ensure public order during the election period.
Quick response units and election security task forces were mobilized, especially in identified election areas of concern.
The PNP encourages the public to report any information that may help in resolving election-related incidents through local police units or official hotlines.
