Oriental Tin Can celebrates 70 years of metal packaging leadership

Oriental Tin Can (OTC), a leader in the metal packaging sector, is celebrating its 70th anniversary following its seven decades of commitment to producing high-quality tin cans. 

OTC is commemorating its 70th anniversary this year, marking seven decades as a pioneering force in the metal packaging industry.

Founded in 1954 by Chua Tee, OTC has become a significant industrial supplier for the majority of food canneries across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. Chairman and CEO Ramon L. Chua said, "We are deeply grateful of how far we have come, from our humble beginnings in the 1950s to becoming the market leader in the metal packaging industry in the Philippines, He added that their journey has been driven by a dedication to quality, a commitment to innovation, and a family legacy.

The company's foundation was built on Chua Tee’s vision that “quality no matter what product you make will be the key to success.” This principle has been passed down through three generations. Today, Ramon L. Chua leads the company, with his son, Felimon Dexter N. Chua, serving as President and General Manager, and Ivee Lynn Chua as the Chief Financial Officer and Executive Vice President for Finance. Felimon Dexter N. Chua noted, “As we celebrate this remarkable milestone, we look forward to an even brighter future. We will continue to honor our tradition of excellence, delivering the highest quality products to our clients.”

A key moment in OTC’s history was in 1954 when Chua Tee moved the company from Caloocan City to a larger facility to expand production. OTC later became the first in the Philippines to install its own Coil Cutting Lines. The company invested in technology, leading to products like CNC machinery for 2-piece cans, which garnered international awards. Under the leadership of Engr. Chua and Felimon Dexter N. Chua, OTC is set to introduce Easy-Open Can Lids (EZO). Engr. Chua said, “Our focus on quality and continuous innovation is what sets OTC apart from our competitors. It is this commitment that has allowed us to maintain our leadership in the industry, and we will continue to push the boundaries of what is possible in metal packaging.”

OTC prioritizes quality control to meet international standards, operating with rigorous practices and complying with legal requirements. Their flagship 2-piece tin can involves close collaboration with clients from consultation to design, using high-quality raw materials and state-of-the-art machinery across four plants nationwide. The Chua family, including the next generation represented by Felimon Dexter N. Chua, remains committed to OTC’s legacy of quality and innovation.
