In celebration of Safe Motherhood Week, the Mandaluyong City government showcased the establishment of human milk bank and pediatric hemodialysis unit built at the Mandaluyong City Medical Center (MCMC) on Monday, May 19.

Mandaluyong City Medical Center (MCMC)
According to the City Health Department (CHD), MCMC is now an accredited Mother-Baby Friendly Health Facility by the Department of Health (DOH) since the launch of its human milk bank.
It is also one of the hospitals spearheading the campaign promoting breastfeeding of mothers, importance of breast milk to babies. The drive urges mothers to refrain from using milk formulas and other kinds of pacifiers unless needed.
In his message, Mandaluyong City Mayor Ben Abalos urged the public to support safe and healthy pregnancies a he vowed to uphold the city's commitment to providing mothers and their children the best healthcare they can have.
Safe Motherhood Week is observed annually during the second week of May in the country. It is a time to raise awareness about maternal and newborn health and promote safe motherhood practices.
Pediatric hemodialyis
Meanwhile, MCMC is also one of six DOH-accredited hospitals after opening its pediatric hemodialysis unit. Currently, children confined at the hospital are given this medical service that is separate from elderly patients.
The facility is also designed to be child-friendly to remove fear and nervousness from the children set to undergo dialysis.
"Kadalasang sumasailalim sa dialysis ang mga pasyenteng mayroong Acute Kidney Infection (AKI) katulad ng leptospirosis, dengue, sepsis, o naka-inom ng labis na gamot (Patients with Acute Kidney Infection (AKI) such as leptospirosis, dengue, sepsis, or who have taken too much medication often undergo dialysis)," the city government said.
