The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said a 5.2-magnitude earthquake struck Davao del Norte shortly before noon on Monday, May 19.
Phivolcs reported that the quake occurred at 11:41 a.m. Its epicenter was located 4 kilometers southeast of Santo Tomas town.
The tremor was felt at Intensity III (weak) in San Fernando, Bukidnon; Magpet and Kidapawan City, Cotabato; and Gingoog, Misamis Oriental.
Intensity II (slightly felt) shaking was recorded in M'lang, Cotabato; Matanao, Davao del Sur; and Nabunturan, Davao de Oro.
Meanwhile, Intensity I (scarcely perceptible) was registered in Kalilangan, Libona, and Malitbog in Bukidnon; Magsaysay and Davao City in Davao del Sur; and Balingasag and Initao in Misamis Oriental.
Phivolcs said the quake was tectonic in origin, which was caused by the movement of an active fault in the area.
The agency also warned of possible aftershocks.
