Congressman-elect Chel Diokno of Akbayan and congresswoman-elect Leila de Lima of Mamamayang Liberal (ML) Party-list have shrugged off Vice President Sara Duterte's pronouncement that she wants a "bloodbath" in her impeachment trial.
Diokno and De Lima, in separate interviews after their respective party-lists' proclamation at the Manila Hotel on Monday, May 19, both said that an impeachment trial must be conducted in a peaceful way.

Diokno and De Lima will serve as House prosecutors in Duterte's impeachment trial after replacing two solon-prosecutors who lost in the elections.
"Di ko alam kung saan nanggagaling 'yun, dahil ang impeachment ay isang (I don't know where she got that, because an impeachment is a) civilized legal process," Diokno said.
"Naku, hindi dapat ganoon ang iniisip. Hindi po ganoon ang impeachment proceedings. Sagrado po ang Constitution sa process of impeachment (She should not think that way. Impeachment proceedings are not like that. According to the Constitution, it is sacred)," De Lima said.
De Lima said Duterte was only trying to get "sympathy" when she said she wanted the trial to push through because she wanted a "bloodbath."
De Lima also believed that Duterte only said such thing for "drama" and "theatrics".
Diokno said the impeachment trial will serve as a venue "to know the truth, hold those responsible accountable, and give justice to the people".
